What the Malaysian Immigration Department states
The Immigration Department of Malaysia lists India among the countries whose citizens must apply for a visa, then carries a footnote exempting Indian citizens. The footnote reads: “India citizen: visa exempts until 31st December 2026.” That is an exemption with a fixed end date, not a permanent rule.
What the official page does not say
The page we reviewed gives no permitted length of stay, no conditions of entry and no list of permitted activities. It also does not say that meetings, trade-fair attendance, installation work or paid assignments are covered. Visa-free entry is not permission to do any kind of business activity; confirm the scope for your trip with the Malaysian authorities.
Planning around the 31 December 2026 date
Anything booked for dates after 31 December 2026 depends on a rule the page does not yet extend. For a trade-fair season or a project that straddles the year-end, we recommend treating the exemption as confirmed only for travel before that date and re-checking the Immigration Department page before booking non-refundable travel.
- Check the page again shortly before each booking window opens.
- For a team that may need to stay or work beyond a short visit, confirm the right category with the Malaysian authorities rather than relying on the exemption.
- Keep a covering letter and an invitation or event confirmation ready; they are good practice for officers’ questions, not a rule we have verified.
How BTW helps with a Malaysia trip
Scope the trip.
We list what each traveller will actually do in Malaysia and compare it with what the Malaysian authorities state.
Confirm the stay conditions.
Because the exemption page is silent on length of stay, we confirm it in writing from the official source before you plan the schedule.
Prepare the supporting pack.
Employer letter, host invitation or fair confirmation and one master itinerary, identical across the team.
Re-check before departure.
We re-read the official note shortly before travel in case the end date or conditions have changed.
